ICS Mission
- The Core Purpose and Values of Our School
Intown Community School endeavors to assist parents in cultivating a Christ-centered life of learning for young people . . .
- by nurturing a community that collaboratively aims for Christ-centered education;
- by engaging young people in an authentically Biblical relationship with the world; and
- by integrating inspiration and training in a quest for Godly wisdom.
This purpose statement reflects the following values that are at the core of who we are as a school.
Christ-Centered Education
Christ is our wisdom from God, and those who have been entrusted with such wisdom must prove faithful. (1Corinthians 1-4)
Home Extension
The school is an extension of the home in which parents accept the primary and significant responsibility to teach their children the ways of the Lord. (Deuteronomy 6, Proverbs 22:6, Matthew 18:5-6, Ephesians 6:4)
Image of God
The education of people must take into consideration that each person is unique and created in the image of God even though that image has been marred. (Genesis 1:26-27, Psalm 139:13-14)
Lifelong Learning
Because a complete understanding of the Lord is not possible for humans, learning is a process that begins at birth and is not complete when life ends. (Job 38-42:6)
Distinctly Biblical World View
True wisdom can be gained by examining reality if and only if it is informed and directed by a Biblical framework. (Psalm 119:105-108, Proverbs 1-2, Romans 12:2, 2 Timothy 3:15-17)
Amidst all the complexities and changes that impact Christian education at Intown Community School, we must always remember the CHILD!
ICS Core Beliefs
Doctrinal Standards of the Covenant School
The following beliefs are foundational to the operation of Intown Community School:
- We believe in the inspiration and inerrancy of the 66 books making up the Holy Scriptures.
- We believe in the majesty and sovereignty of God.
- We believe that God created the universe out of nothing in six days.
- We believe that God created man in His image.
- We believe that at the fall this image was broken, resulting in man's total depravity.
- We believe in God's gracious plan of redemption, as described in the scriptures.
- We believe that God applies the salvation earned by Jesus Christ to man through the Holy Spirit.
- We believe in the Reformed view of Christianity known as "Covenant Theology."
- We believe in the priority of the church and the necessity of local church membership by believers.
- We believe in a final judgment of man by God leading to heaven or hell.
- We believe the Presbyterian form of government to be the Biblical way to operate all church ministries, including the school.
We believe that in doctrinal issues there must be unity in the essentials and love in the non-essentials.
